Special Beginnings

Our docs love delivering babies at Wayne Hospital
Childbirth Classes
Registered nurses from the Special Beginnings Birth Center offer a variety of classes depending on
your interests and needs. All classes are free to moms delivering at Wayne Hospital.
All classes are held at Wayne Hospital and include a tour of the OB unit.
Primary Classes - For first-time parents or those who have not had childbirth education. Preparation for labor, breastfeeding, baby care, and many other topics are covered. Six weekly 2-hour classes.
Refresher Classes - for those who have had childbirth classes but want an update and review. Two 2-hour classes.
C-Section/VBAC Class - For those anticipating a C-Section or attempting a vaginal birth after a previous C-Section. One 2-hour class.
Birthing Rooms
Our birthing rooms enable you to labor, deliver, and spend a two-hour recovery period without having to be
moved.
The recovery period is used not only to stabilize the condition or you and your baby, but may also be used as a time for mother, father, siblings, and grandparents to become better acquainted with the new baby.
After recovery, you may be moved to one of our postpartum rooms, or stay in the Birthing Room for a 24-hour stay. Either way, friends and family can share your experience.
All our rooms are decorated to feel more like home so families can relax and enjoy the joyous occasion.
Financial Arrangements
If you are uninsured and choose to prepay for your hospital stay, then Wayne Hospital offers you a special
Birthing Suite fee. To qualify for the special fee, you and your baby must have an uncomplicated labor,
delivery, and post-delivery course. You must have your physician’s approval for discharge at 24 hours
after delivery. If you deliver between 10 P.M. and 9 A.M., you may remain past 24 hours until 9 A.M.
without incurring additional charges.
Two items not included in the package fee which may be ordered by your physician are the Rubella vaccine (measles) and RhoGAM, which is given to mothers who have Rh negative blood and have Rh positive babies.
If you or your baby develop complications and need to stay longer than 24 hours after delivery, you will be billed for actual service received. If a complication develops with your baby and you still go home in 24 hours, then you may still qualify for the package fee.
Payment in full upon discharge is necessary to qualify for the special fee. You may wish to do this in one payment or participate in the hospital’s prepayment plan. For information regarding this contact Billing at 548-1141, ext. 5770.
Please inform the registration clerk at the time you register that you are planning on a 24-hour discharge and are using the package fee option.
Insured patients can prevent unpleasant surprises by asking question about financial matter ahead of time. If you are insured, please contact your employer and/or insurer regarding specific requirements. Some insurers require notification before your admission and many will pay for only a limited stay.

Lactation Education
The Birthing Center supports the health objectives of UNICEF and the World Health Organization to increase
the incidence and duration of breast-feeding. BREAST IS BEST!! is our motto. A Certified Lactation
Consultant is a member of our staff and her assistance is available at no charge to our mothers. The
nursing staff has years of experience and training in helping mothers get their breast-feeding off to a
good start.
The Hospital also offers a Breastpump Rental program - the only one in the area. Top of the line Medela Breastpumps are available for rental or sale at reasonable rates. These services have contributed to the increasing number of new mothers who provide their babies with nature’s "liquid gold" - human milk.
KISS
Kids in Safety Seats makes sense since state law requires all babies be restrained in a car seat. Wayne
Hospital volunteers will visit new moms to explain the Hospital’s car seat program. Safety seats are
available through Special Beginnings for a small fee. The seats can later be returned to the Hospital for
a partial refund.
Baby Pictures
The Special Beginnings staff will take the baby’s first picture before mom and baby are discharged. Any
ordered pictures will be delivered to the parent’s home in two to three weeks.
Your Admission
A registration form is available from your physician’s office, in your childbirth education classes, or
from the Hospital’s Registration Department in the main lobby.
The form should be completed and returned to the Registration Department about four weeks before your due date.
When you are to be admitted, you should go to the Admission Office between the hours of 7 A.M.. and 11 P.M.. After 11 P.M.. you will be admitted through the Emergency Department. Both areas are on the main floor of the Hospital.
