Supportive Services
CADC (Cancer Association of Darke County)
What is the CADC
The Cancer Association of Darke County is a non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1995. It is a local and independent organization with a Darke County Board of Directors.
Services of CADC
Any Darke County resident with a diagnosis of cancer can receive the services of the CADC. Services begin on the day you first contact us. These services include: transportation, financial assistance, wigs/hairpieces, mileage reimbursement, nutritional supplements, breast prosthesis, ostomy supplies, support group, and other cancer-related expenses. Please call the office to discuss your needs at 937.548.9960.
Support Group
There is a support group that meets monthly at Wayne HealthCare for cancer patients and their families. These meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month. The meetings are from 7-8 pm on the 3rd floor, in the conference room at Wayne HealthCare. (Note: no meetings July or August). There is usually a speaker at each meeting. Call the CADC for more details, or contact Jill Brown at Wayne HealthCare by dialing 937.547.5079.
ACS (American Cancer Society)
ACS will provide programs to the Community such as:
Look Good...Feel Better
This is a free program that teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients. Trained, volunteer cosmetologists teach women about skin changes, hair loss, and how to use cosmetics, skin care products, wigs, scarves and other accessories to combat the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment. A free cosmetic kit is provided at all group sessions. The program includes a free makeover and free make-up. While most women find the support group environment of the LGFB workshop to be beneficial, the program is also offered as a private consultation if preferred. You can contact Jill Brown at Wayne HealthCare for more information at 937.547.5079.
Reach to Recovery
This is a free program that provides information and support to anyone facing breast cancer through one-on-one contact with breast cancer survivors. These breast cancer survivor volunteers may meet with someone in person, or by telephone. Whenever possible, the program attempts to match the person with a volunteer who is similar in age and who has had a similar breast cancer experience. Please contact Jill Brown for more information at 937.547.5079.
